Captions

I’ve written captions for films and audio installations as well as incorporating them into subtitled audio.

Charlie Shackleton describes his abandoned Zodiac Killer documentary and probes the inner workings of a genre at saturation point.

In 2024, I created the sound captions (and some additional foley) for Loop Films’ Zodiac Killer Project, in collaboration with Charlie Shackleton. The film premiered at Sundance in 2025.

In 2024, I was asked to make the sound captions for Joe Namy’s ‘Radio Underground’ audio installation. Created as part of Art on the Underground.

I was grateful to be asked to write the captions for Arwa Aburawa and Turab Shah’s 'And still, it remains' (2023), a film which spends time with the residents of Mertoutek, a village in the Hoggar Mountains of Algeria’s Southern Sahara, who live surrounded by ancient rock art and the legacy of France’s nuclear bombs. Exploring what it means to exist in such intimacy with toxic colonialism.

I created audio transcripts for each of the listening rooms at the second iteration of the Soundhouse audio cinema in the Barbican.

I’ve incorporated sound captions into a number of subtitled audio films - including Ross Sutherland’s ‘Hallucinations’, which explored the strange echoes in his hearing and was created for the Short Cuts episode ‘Signal to Noise’ in 2023. I first made a captioned audio film in collaboration with Raymond Antrobus (who wrote all of the annotations that appear) for our documentary ‘Inventions in Sound’
